Over the last few years, I've really been tapping into my creative side. They say if you want something that doesn't exist, then you should create it. So, that's exactly what I did but I will get to that shortly. Like many others, I work a traditional 9-5 (yes, I work full-time and run my business - are you impressed? lol) but I believe that your work-space should be organized, fun, inviting, and encourages you to be productive.

I purchased this painting from Target a few years back and when I moved into my office space, I thought it would be a great addition. However, the spot next to the painting, was covered with this blue, adhesive putty that was used to hold up previous artwork. It looked like someone tried to remove most of it but there was still a good amount left behind. I'm very particular about things being in order and neat - and one day I just had enough of looking at these blue dots on my wall. It drove me crazy and it was really messing up my zen. My plan was to cover up the blue putty that was left behind but I also didn't want to spend a lot of money on this project.

After a few days of brainstorming, I decided that I would use that space to store my keys and work badge. I didn't have a specific storage place for them and when I would arrive to work, I would just place my keys on my desk and as an organizer, I preach that everything must have a specific storage place. So, I have to practice upholding the same message.

The first step was to spray paint the clothespins a gold, metallic color. The color gold is so rich and also complements the painting.

Next, I purchased the Scotch 'clear mounting strips' from The Container Store. The great thing about working full-time is that my job is located right around the corner from DC's - Container Store so I'm in there quite frequently. The 'clear mounting strips' were really inexpensive. The next day at work, I simply peeled back one of the 'clear mounting strips' and applied one adhesive side to the back of the clothespin. I made sure it was evenly placed and then removed the paper from the other side of the strip and gently placed it on the wall. That's it. It literally took me 15 minutes to do that.

This project was so fun and didn't take a lot of time to create. You will need the following if you would like to re-create this project: - paint (if you want to add color to the clothespins) - a blank space to mount the clothespin - Scotch 'adhesive mounting strips' - jumbo clothespins - similar to the A.C. Moore clothes pins but from JoAnn Fabrics If you've been following me for a while then you know I like to reiterate that getting organized doesn't have to be expensive and this project is a great example! Another reason why I loved this DIY project was because the clothespins can also hold paperwork, pictures or other small items. So, the project is very functional. If you re-create this project then I would love to see the end result and be sure to tag me on Instagram: @soleorganizer and use the hashtag #organizewithsole!
